Barbara Reich is a nationally recognized artist specializing in soft pastel, a medium that is very exciting and beautifully complex. Capturing moments, subjects, and strong visual concepts, with the near pure pigments of soft pastel is exhilarating, and sharing this knowledge with others is something she is passionate about. Barbara enjoys both studio and plein air painting, working from life as often as possible. Early instruction instilled in her the intense desire to draw better, paint color with more emotion, and to always hunt and study the changing light.
Barbara regularly exhibits in local, regional, and national exhibitions. She participates in plein air paint-outs, finding them to be uniquely challenging and rewarding. Barbara was a founding member of the Mid-Michigan Plein Air Painters, and her paintings are included in multiple publications including “Art of the Sleeping Bear Dunes”. She strongly believes that creating art is a continuous learning experience, and greatly enjoys giving back in the form of teaching and demonstrating. Barbara was awarded Signature Status in the Pastel Society of the West Coast in 2015.
Barbara is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast. She is also a member of the Great Lakes Pastel Society, Associate member of the Pastel Society of America, The Detroit Society of Women Painters and Sculptors, Crooked Tree Arts Center, the Glen Arbor Art Center, and the Northport Art Association.
