Meet the Artist......
What has plein air painting taught you about yourself? Taught me to work quickly but be patient and be open to change.
What is the furthest you have traveled for your art/plein air? My daughter lives in Galway, Ireland. Whenever I visit her I take my paints and brave the Irish weather on the coast. It can be quite windy.
Can you share a fond, or unusual, memory of plein air painting? I enjoy plein air painting with other artists. Painters are often looking for the perfect place to paint. I followed 2 other painters along a pebble rock creek. They were driving jeeps and 4 wheel drive vehicles. I drove my mini cooper into loose rocks until my wheels were buried. Thank God that my friend in the jeep had a tow line.
What is a recent thing that you painted or drew a picture of? My last painting was of horses and jockeys. I’m from Louisville, KY and horses are quite popular at derby time!
What is your favorite plein air subject, location or time of the year to plein air paint? My favorite subject is water and sky. I love painting along the Ohio River, Lake Michigan or Florida beaches. My favorite time to paint is late evening when the colors are golden.
What is something that looks fun that you want to try? Well, I’ve tried a lot of things in my life, and had a lot of fun. How about swing dancing? I’m open for suggestions, but I’d like to sail or hike the coast in Croatia and Portugal and pack my paints!
