After receiving a BFA from Drake University, Des Moines, IA, I focused on the medium of batik in a fine art direction. I love the batik process, even though it is one of the more time consuming and unforgiving mediums. I have to carefully plan my work. Yet, it has a spontaneity that challenges choices at every step. These everchanging choices are part of the excitement of each piece. Batik is a medium where clear wax is painted on fabric which is then are immersed in or painted on with colored dyes. It’s great fun, as I can take the same subjects and styles as a painter, in more traditional forms, and give it a new and different finished look.
After working in this medium for over 44 years, I am currently enjoying the opportunity to travel with my artist husband, Phil Fisher, and interpret the new environments I’m experiencing in batik. It offers a unique view of some enchanting scenes. Most of these scenes are on location and therefore being batiked “en plein air”. I have participated in plein air events during the past 7 years, including “Third On Canvas” and “Art Aid Quick Draw”, Naples, FL and plein air events in Glen Arbor, Northport and Leland, MI. My works have been published in International Artist, CEO Journal, Life In Naples and Old Naples News.
